Should you learn JavaScript on 2025?

If you want short answer — yes. But amongst many resources that you see online you may have doubts like, “Which to choose?”, “how to learn?” “Where to learn?”

You want to learn JavaScript and might be thinking “aight, lets go all in”. So you search JavaScript course on Udemy and see those 60hours long video. Guess what, I was one of such kind and watched it all. Yeah, i am insane. um…, maybe stupid. Okay I will explain my point while going through my journey.

I learned JavaScript only to know that i need to learn TypeScript.

I took 60 hours long JavaScript course…ewwww. It took me about approximately 1 and half months, and then i started doing my own first cool project; yes, todo list. While doing Todo list i realized that i know nothing. Okay, maybe it was my 2 brain cell working lazy. But what i want to prove is, Whatever you learn from wherever, ultimately you are turning that documentation page or searching stack over flow while doing project.

So, How to learn? you may ask.

if you are absolute beginner, maybe start with python or C or maybe JavaScript because they are easy to learn for fundamentals like variable, function, array, etc. If you have already started with some other language and knows basic, no problem. most language differ only on syntax.

If you want to learn JavaScript or any other language, it will be an ideal choice to start with reading documentation. If reading documentation is not your go, you may consider watching videos from Youtube. But don’t stick on it for 60 hours. If you are self motivated and love to read on your own and still want to watch videos, you can watch course which are an hour long or less than 6 hours and learn more thoroughly while doing project on your own. Else, I think you should not cross 12 hours for any beginner course. Ultimately you are going to learn from doing projects by yourself; this is the only way. Spend more time on doing different projects.

So on going back to Udemy course. Some course are amazing but only defect is most of them are too long and you may end up in tutorial hell
Note: I am not targeting any teacher. My main goal is to give you my view on how to learn JavaScript or any other language for beginners. Remember, if you are preparing for Job interview or something deep level cheesy, you can consider watching such course but still documentation would be a great choice.

If you are still figuring out and wants to start with web development then watch some videos on Youtube before AI takes over, kidding. Keep on exploring and discovering. Wish you best wishes and luck.
